I want to share a little bit about our amazing home birth experience. Having a home birth wasn’t on my radar until a friend had one and it completely changed my opinion about it as she had a wonderful experience. Like many, I would have thought it was ‘too scary’ but it turns out I actually think that being in a hospital to give birth is much scarier!

My husband wasn’t keen on the idea when I first mentioned it but we did the hypnobirthing course with Ruth, which was so informative and taught us so much! I truly believe our birth experience was as good as it was because of her. I can’t thank her enough! After that he was 100% on board and we were so excited for our home birth to happen!

It was exactly how we imagined, so calm and relaxing as we were in our own environment, and we felt more in control of what we wanted to happen with the midwives being in ‘our’ territory. The care they gave us was amazing, there were at least two midwives with us at all times, keeping an eye on us, but giving us the space we needed.

My labour started spontaneously at 39+2 and was 12 hours from start to finish. Ida was born into the most calm atmosphere in the birthing pool. I used Gas and Air for a little while in the middle part of my labour.

I personally found the warm pool the best pain relief.

My hope is that women don’t feel scared about giving birth, but instead, feel confident and calm.
